Senior Nicole Bush put the finishing touches on a season to complete pending Cross Country Championship 5th National de la NCAA, winning every U.S. state with a 6,000 meter time-of 20:13.4, missing school-record for the competition, only 3-10ths second. The 6K is 3.84 miles Bush pace and miles about 5:16.
His final 5th place individually with women from Michigan State to finish 5th place team, the second best result ever for the Spartans, second only to the 4th position in 1981 when the first woman in NCAA championships.
Improved Bush last year and all This year, the American performance has been spectacular. She finished in 3rd place for runners of Sparta last year in 78th place with a time of 22:09, just 4 seconds shy of full two minutes, the slowest.
Bush was followed by junior Alissa McKaig (50 in 21:22), Junior Sarah Price (82 in 21:37), senior Lisa Senakiewich (90 in 21:44) and second Emily MacLeod (94th in 21:45). Not this year scored two more sophomores Becky McCormack (115th in 21:54) and Ashley Casavant (199th in 23:12).
Importantly, the difference between the arrival of McKaig and prices increased to 32 seats, but only 15 seconds. Absent Race 5 was a finalist, the Spartans' strong senior Katie Kelly, who was with a back injury. Kelly was available, the Spartans do more and better.
Things are better luck for the performance of the state of Michigan, especially when you know that all members of the women's team again to be next year.
Anita Arndt-Molis continues to impress as Deputy Head of the Michigan State coach in charge of all middle-distance runners and distance. Last year, the women of Sparta in the 12th race of the NCAA Championship.
Power to the women of Sparta even better? You decide with only the knowledge of these three facts:
1) Last year, Alissa McKaig finished 9th overall at 21:07: This year was not his day as it was 50 in 21:22.
2) Sarah Price was 137th last year and 82 this year.
3) Nicole Bush was only 3 seconds behind the eventual winner, Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech to the mark 2K, only 20 seconds behind her in the 4K mark and 43 seconds at the end. More strength training, an increased confidence to show this year and more experience and maturity can close the gap to one individual in the national championship considerably.
Obviously, Nicole Bush must now be considered among the elite emerging middle distance runners at the national level and perspective of the Summer Olympics Games 2012.
For the record, Stanford won the title of the NCAA in 2007, women, followed by Oregon, Florida and Arizona State. With his 5th place, women Michigan State Minnesota Ten left the grand champion (12th) and Great Lakes regional corridor to Michigan (21st) in the dust.
The Spartan men's team, which finished 17th in the Championship NCAA last year, has no standing to end run this year. His season ended with the championship of the Great Lakes Regional and a 6th place finish behind Michigan and Wisconsin (which tied for 1st), Notre Dame, Indiana and Ohio State. Sophomore Max Goldak led Michigan State with a 23rd place finish.
The Spartan men ran well a package (about 64 seconds gap between 1 and brokers 5), but not fast enough to clear the road to qualification the NCAA.
The Spartan women refused to run after successfully defending his regional title in the Great Lakes, Michigan, led by 3 points ahead by Nicole runner-up finish Bush. The five top scorers in Sparta were among the 25 best finishes, a precursor of their outstanding performance in the NCAA.
For the record, women in Michigan have been 2nd in the 2007 final Big Ten Conference, barely muffled by Minnesota at one point. This type of finish highlights the importance of 7 runners on the team, not just top 5 finishers included in team score. When a team of 6 runners and 7 th place finish before the 5th best scorer, the impact is more than significant.
Men placed out of money at the end of the Big Ten, 7th. They work well in one package, but it's the whole package is to make faster or need someone to separate from the pack and become the leader, pulling others along more quickly. The group velocity benefits from the speed of the leader.
Wisconsin Badgers won the 2007 Big Ten title 9th consecutive year, placing their top 5 finishers in the top 15. You read, 9 consecutive titles, Wisconsin is made by hiring the winners. They have created an environment that attracts runners win successfully prepared. Period, end of story.
