According to Customs data released on 11 September, China exported 2.08 million tons of steel in August, the highest recorded since early 2009, and imported 1.59 million tons of steel and 350,000 tons of steel billets. This means that China has made new net exports of steel after an importer steel net held for five consecutive months since April 2009.
In the coming months, the situation of China's steel exports will continue to improve, but recovery will be slow. And the influence of factors such as the sharp fall in domestic prices of steel, narrowing the gap between international prices and National Steel and the refund of export tax, China's steel exports will continue to grow each month.
Himfr.com analysts believe that the resumption Steel exports from China is in line with market expectations and is also the result of further improving the foreign market demand. According Customs data released Sept. 11 in the first eight months of 2009, China imported 404.90 million tons of iron ore, up 32 percent year over year. The sum total spending reached 30.938 billion U.S. dollars, and the average price of ore was U.S. $ 76.41 per ton.
According to statistics umetal.com, total storage volume of iron ore of 19 ports of China on September 11 was 73.74 million tons, 390,000 tons, compared with the same period of the previous week. The iron ore price peaked at U.S. $ 110 per ton, but now has dropped to around U.S. $ 80 per ton.
